But safety isn’t just about the bulb. We avoid cheap plastic housings—they just crack after a few months of heating up and cooling down. Instead, we stick to powder-coated aluminum or stainless steel. Here’s the trick: we bond the mirror frame to a dedicated ground. If a filament ever snaps and touches the casing, the ground path trips the breaker immediately. It’s a simple fail-safe that keeps you safe. The Balancing Act: Heat vs. Safety It’s tempting to go for the highest wattage possible to get that “instant” heat. A 250W lamp is a breeze to insulate. But once you push into 500W territory, things get spicy. That extra heat can actually bake the sealing compounds, making them brittle over time. Once the seal cracks, the risk of electrical leakage shoots up. The fix? Plenty of venting. You have to let the connection points breathe so they don’t cook themselves. And for heaven’s sake, use heat-resistant cabling. There’s nothing worse than the smell of a melting wire jacket in a small bathroom.
