
Getting Your Bathroom Heat Just Right
Nobody likes stepping onto a freezing cold tile floor first thing in the morning. It’s a shock to the system. That’s why we use shortwave infrared. Instead of trying to heat up all the air in the room—which takes forever—these lamps heat you and the surfaces around you directly. You flip the switch, and you feel it. Right away. But here is the trick: you can’t just throw the biggest lamp you find into any room and call it a day.
Picking the Right Power
If you’re dealing with a tiny powder room (under 3m²), keep it simple. A 400W to 600W lamp is plenty to keep things cozy. For those medium-sized bathrooms—the 4 to 7m² range—you’ll probably want to bump it up to 800W or 1200W. Now, if you have a massive master bath (over 8m²), a single lamp isn’t going to cut it. You’ll want a few 1500W units or a denser array of lights to make sure the warmth actually reaches the middle of the room.
Don’t Overdo It
It’s tempting to go for max power, but there’s a catch. If you cram a 1500W lamp into a tiny stall, it gets way too hot. That puts a ton of stress on the quartz glass, and your bulb will burn out much faster than it should. Also, keep an eye on your ceilings. The higher the ceiling, the more power you need because the heat has further to travel before it hits you. It’s a balancing act.
A Few Installation Tips
Before you start wiring, take a look at your breaker. High-power lamps pull a lot of current, and you don’t want to be tripping your electricity every time you take a shower. And please, use heat-resistant wiring. The sockets get hot, and you don’t want the insulation melting. It’s just not worth the risk. Here is the trade-off: lower wattage lamps stay cooler and tend to last longer, but they might feel a bit weak if your room is drafty. On the other hand, high wattage gives you that instant “blast” of heat, but it can wear out the filament a bit quicker. Pick the one that fits how you actually use your space.
