
How to keep bathroom IR heaters warm, safe, and not blinding
If you’re putting an infrared heater in a bathroom, you can’t just slap on an IP65 rating to keep the water out and call it a day. There’s a bigger problem: the glare. If you’ve ever looked at a standard IR lamp, you know it’s blinding. Now imagine that in a room with a baby or a toddler. It’s too much. We had to figure out a way to keep the heat but kill the light. The trick with the light Standard short-wave lamps are basically spotlights you didn’t ask for. To fix this, we use special coatings on the quartz glass. Think of it as a filter. It blocks those annoying visible light frequencies that make you squint, but lets the actual heat waves slide right through. You get the warmth, but none of that harsh, white glare. It’s much easier on the eyes—especially for infants who can’t just look away. Dealing with the “waterproof” struggle Making something IP65 means it has to survive a jet of water. To do that, we use tempered glass and heavy-duty silicone gaskets to seal everything tight. But here’s the catch: when you seal a heater that tightly, the heat has nowhere to go. It just sits inside the box. Because of that, we have to use wiring that can handle much higher temperatures. If you use cheap wires, the insulation will melt or the connectors will just rust away. It’s a small detail, but it’s the difference between a heater that lasts and one that shorts out in six months. Getting it installed We made these easy to swap out. We used standard sockets so that when a lamp eventually dies, you just pop a new one in. You shouldn’t have to rewire your entire ceiling just to fix a bulb. One thing to keep in mind: these filtered lamps don’t behave exactly like clear ones. They might take a few extra seconds to feel truly hot, but that’s a fair trade for not blinding everyone in the room. And a quick tip? Make sure your brackets are tight. Once you add the protective glass and the heavy casing, these units have some real weight to them. Don’t cut corners on the mounting.
