
Keeping Bathroom Heaters Warm, But Safe for the Eyes
When we design infrared lamps for bathrooms, we’re basically fighting a tug-of-war. You want enough heat to stop a baby from shivering in a damp room, but you can’t have a light so bright it hurts their eyes. It’s a delicate balance. The trick is in the light. Most standard infrared lamps have this blinding, harsh glare. Nobody wants that in a bathroom. To fix it, we tweak the filament and add a special coating to the quartz glass. This filters out the UV and the blinding visible light, leaving you with a “soft” glow. The energy stays right where it belongs—in the infrared band. It sinks into the skin to warm you up without overloading the retina. Now, here’s the catch. When you filter the light for safety, you lose a bit of that raw, instant heating speed. A filtered lamp isn’t as fast as a raw halogen tube. To make up for that, we get obsessive about the reflectors. We use high-purity aluminum to bounce every single bit of heat straight down. That way, you still feel the warmth immediately, even though the light is dimmed. Then there’s the “bathroom” part of the equation. Steam is a nightmare for electronics. That’s why we seal the housing and the connections tight. If steam creeps into the sockets, you’ve got a short circuit on your hands, and that’s a problem nobody wants. One quick tip for the install: make sure your voltage matches the driver exactly. I’ve seen people try to “over-volt” a lamp to get it hotter. Don’t do that. It pushes the light back into that dangerous, blinding range and will probably fry the filament way sooner than it should. Lastly, we keep the whole thing compact. A smaller footprint means fewer accidental burns and a much more focused zone of heat. Simple, safe, and it actually works.
