
Getting Heat Right in Your Smart Fab
If you’re building a modern, digitalized fab, you’ve probably realized that managing heat is a total pain. Most standard IR lamps are just… leaky. They waste a ton of energy through convection or bad reflection, meaning you’re heating up your machine chassis instead of the actual wafer. That’s why we use gold-coated infrared lamps. It sounds fancy, but the goal is simple: make sure the heat actually goes where it’s supposed to.
Why the gold matters
Here’s the thing about quartz lamps—they usually throw out a broad, messy range of wavelengths. By adding a thin layer of gold to the quartz envelope, we can shift that spectrum. The gold reflects the long-wave IR and squeezes the output into a tight, short-wave band. This cranks up the heat flux density. For you, that means your ramp-up times are way faster and the temperature stays consistent across the whole workpiece. No more guessing if the edges are as hot as the center.
Making your data actually mean something
In a smart factory, your heating system can’t be a black box; it has to be a reliable data point. Because these gold-coated emitters hit their target temperatures so quickly, your PLC can track thermal cycles down to the millisecond. It kills that annoying “thermal lag” that usually makes your process logs look like a lie. Suddenly, your production data actually matches what’s happening on the wafer in real-time.
The “Gotchas”
Now, there’s a trade-off. High-intensity IR systems put a real strain on your power grid. When you’re wiring up a bank of these high-wattage lamps, you can’t skim on the cooling fans or heat sinks. If your exhaust can’t pull the ambient heat away from the electronics, your components are going to fry. It’s that simple. We designed these to be drop-in replacements for existing semiconductor tools, but do yourself a favor: check your voltage stability. Because the energy density is so high, any little flicker in your power supply will show up as a temperature spike. Keep your power clean, and these things will run like a dream.
