
Stop Letting Moisture Kill Your Infrared Heaters
Water and electricity are a nightmare pairing. If you’ve worked in a plant or a warehouse, you know the drill: steam, condensation, or just a random splash hits the wiring, and suddenly your heater is dead. It’s usually oxidation or a short circuit that does the trick. We got tired of seeing heaters burn out for such a preventable reason, so we built our IR heaters with an IPX4 rating.
What does “IPX4” actually mean for you?
In plain English? It means the housing is designed to keep water splashes out, no matter which way they’re coming from. We didn’t just slap a cover on it. We focused on the danger zones—the spots where the power cables enter the chassis. Instead of leaving those open to the air, we used gaskets and precision-molded seals. It keeps the guts of the machine dry. And when the internals stay dry, your control board doesn’t corrode and die a premature death. Simple as that.
The battle against fog
Then there’s the humidity. When the temperature swings, you get that annoying fogging effect. Little droplets form on the quartz tube or the reflector, and they act like a wall, scattering the heat instead of letting it beam straight to your target. To fix this, we used specific coatings and smart airflow paths. It keeps the heating surface clear so the energy actually goes where it’s supposed to, rather than getting trapped in a layer of mist.
A couple of things to keep in mind
Now, there is a trade-off. Because the unit is sealed tight to keep water out, heat stays trapped inside the housing a bit longer. Don’t just shove these into a tight corner. You need to give the external heat sinks some breathing room. If you cram them into a space with no airflow, you’re risking the internal wiring. One last tip: follow the spec sheet when you’re wiring things up. If you mess with the seals or bypass them during installation, that IPX4 protection is gone. You’ll be right back to square one with a heater that takes a beating from the environment. Keep those seals tight, and these things will easily outlast any open-frame heater you’ve used before.
